Homemade Car Air Freshener

Car air fresheners make your time behind the wheel of your new car in Tucson even more enjoyable. Do you know how easy it is to make a DIY car air freshener? All it takes is materials like clay discs, jars, felt, herbs, and oil to make a lovely car air freshener for an affordable price. Suntrup Automotive Group would be glad to show you how!

Clay Disc & Essential Oil Air Fresheners

You can purchase clay discs at your local craft store, or you can find them online. The purpose of the clay disc is to hold essential oils. With this method, your car can smell amazing for weeks at a time.

Necessary Materials:

  • Clay disc
  • Your favorite essential oils

Directions:

  1. Rub a generous amount of essential oils onto the clay disc.
  2. Before you place the clay disc in your car, you need to let the essential oils soak in for a bit.

Felt and Herbs Car Fresheners

Another way to create a car air freshener is to use fresh herbs. To keep the car smelling fresh, simply crumple the felt bag in your hands once and a while for the best results.

Necessary Materials:

  • Felt in any color you like
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Thread and needle
  • String
  • Your favorite herbs

Directions:

  1. Cut out two pieces of felt in the same shape and size.
  2. You will create a bag for the herbs by sewing the two pieces together.
  3. Place the herbs inside and sew the top closed.
  4. Punch a hole through the top of the felt bag.
  5. Put the string through the hole and tie the two end-pieces.
  6. Hang your new air freshener on your rearview mirror or air vent.

Mason Jar Air Fresheners

If you prefer to keep your car air freshener out of view or in a cup holder, you can create one using a mason jar. This method is wonderful for odor elimination.

Necessary Materials:

  • Small mason jar
  • Cardboard
  • Nail
  • Baking soda
  • Your favorite essential oils

Directions:

  1. Take the lid off of the mason jar.
  2. Use the metal lid to trace a circle on the cardboard.
  3. Cut out the cardboard circle.
  4. Poke holes in the cardboard using a nail.
  5. Fill the jar halfway with baking soda.
  6. Add drops of your favorite essential oils.
  7. Replace the metal ring from the mason jar with the cardboard circle you created. Secure the circle with the metal ring. Save the metal circle for later.
